How to Prepare for a Professional Recording Session
Studio time should be dedicated to inspired performance, not troubleshooting file formats or replacing dead guitar strings. Follow these 7 golden rules.

1. Lock Down Your BPM and Tempo Maps
Ensure your project tempo (BPM) is fixed before entering the studio. If the track includes tempo changes or ritardandos, export a standard MIDI tempo map so our Pro Tools session aligns instantly with your reference guide.
2. Fresh Strings and Instrument Intonation
Change guitar and bass strings 24 to 48 hours prior to the session. This allows the strings to stretch and stabilize pitch while retaining top-end brilliance. Check bridge intonation across the entire fretboard.
3. Vocal Care: Hydration and Vocal Rest
Hydrate with room-temperature water 24 hours prior—water takes hours to hydrate vocal fold tissue. Avoid dairy and heavy alcohol before tracking to prevent mucus buildup and vocal fatigue.
4. Export Consolidated Audio Stems
Export dry audio stems starting from bar 1 (0:00:000) at 24-bit / 48kHz or 96kHz. Clear track names (e.g., 01_Kick_In.wav, 14_LeadVocal_Dry.wav) save up to an hour of setup time.
