Discipline 02 · Natural Acoustics
Live room recording with natural acoustic diffusion
True acoustic instruments require volume to breathe. Our 48 m² live room with a 3.8-meter ceiling delivers a rich, controlled reverberation time (RT60 = 0.38s) that enriches grand piano, string ensembles, acoustic guitars, and drum kits.
Capturing Real Instruments in Acoustic Space
Sample libraries lack the spontaneous micro-dynamics and natural room interplay that occur when musicians play together in an acoustically optimized hall. At Lymnaean Space, we capture the physical movement of air.
1. C. Bechstein Model B Grand Piano
Our resident grand piano is regularly voiced and tuned prior to recording dates. We capture its singing bell-like treble and authoritative bass register with matched pairs of small-diaphragm condensers (Neumann KM184) and warm ribbon mics (Coles 4038) placed inside and above the rim.
2. String Quartets & Chamber Ensembles
Thanks to movable acoustic gobo screens, we can isolate individual instruments or allow natural acoustic blending. Using Blumlein and ORTF stereo techniques, we capture ensemble breadth with zero phase cancellation.
3. Full Drum Kit Sessions
Our floating wooden floor provides punchy low-end isolation. With 16 discrete tracking channels dedicated to close mics, stereo overheads, and ambient room pairs, your drum tracks achieve organic weight and stereo dimensionality.
